The Grumman F4F WildCat was an American Carrier born aircraft during World War Two built to replace the Buffalo which the navy found to be a disappointment. Making use of the Thatch Wave the WildCat achieved a kill to lose ratio of 6.9:1 during the war. They are known for the Battle of Samar were they resorted to strafing ships, including the bridge of the Imperial Japanese Battleship Yamato, which in the wake of resistance retreated from battle.
