Japan is an island nation off the coast of South Korea, China, and Russia. It's naval power was first recognized during the Sino-Japanese War and latter by virtue of it's primarily carrier lead pacific fleets during WWII. The Ships of Japan were mostly based on French designs and often involved the use of wooden decks. Thus making them fast and mobile.

Brief History[edit | edit source]

Japan has had an Emperor for it's entire recorded history with claims stretching back to 660 BC. Buddhism was introduced thanks to contact with the Chinese in the 700s AD. Shortly afterwards (735-737) an epidemic hit the island nation, possiblely thanks to germs from the Chinese mainland, that killed a portion of the population. The Feudal Era began in the 1100s with the rise of the Samurai and would be marked by the beginning of the Shogunate. The early Shogunates however would be unable to keep the local warlords in check and the Onin War broke out shattering Japan. It was during the Warring States period that followed this conflict that Christianity was brought to the people of Japan and with it, European Firearms.

Japan would be unified in the Sengoku Era thanks to these arms in 1590, and the renewed state would invade Korea twice, but fail to take the land. This state would soon be governed, after another civil war, by the Tokugawa Shogunate which began a period of isolationism. The United States Navy would force the nation to open it's ports in 1854 which brought political instability, western political theory, as well as technology. It was during this time the Meiji Restoration began creating a constitution for the empire and adopting many European political practices. These combined to bring the Empire of Japan to World Power status, and the emergence of the Taisho Democracy.

In World War One Japan entered the war on the side of the Allies. Having proved the power of its navy during the Sino-Japanese War against Czarist Russia. Japan's involvement in World War One allowed it to acquire a number of territories, including Manchuria. The League of Nations would condemn this occupation of Manchuria, and Japan would resign from the League. As the economic depression of the 1930s hit the globe the people of Japan turned to those of traditional respect. Military leaders soon gained great influence in the Meiji state and the nation become highly centralized, and militant. In 1936, Japan, and many other nations joined in an alliance to combat the Communist International. Among these nations, Nazi Germany. This alliance, known as the Anti-Comintern, would eventually transform into the Axis Powers.

Most likely in response to America ending the exportation of Oil to the Japanese state the Empire launched an attack on Pearl Harbor. Bringing the US into the conflict of World War Two. The Pacific theater would rage on till the Nuclear Bombing of Japan by the United States. The US had before doing so sent the Postdam Declaration to Japan that stated that it must; "proclaim now the unconditional surrender of all Japanese armed forces, and to provide proper and adequate assurances of their good faith in such action. The alternative for Japan is prompt and utter destruction." and that "the authority and influence of those who have deceived and misled the people of Japan into embarking on world conquest must be eliminated for all time". The leadership and many Allied nations were unsure if the Americans would seek to eliminate the monarchy and thus Japan ignored the declaration as an insult to their faith and government. The unconditional surrender of Japan after the atomic bombs saw an end to the war and the greatest lose in civilian lives Japan has faced in a conflict. This defeat however saw the revival of Meiji Era ideals and those of the Taisho Democracy with the adoption of a new constitution in 1947, and the continuation of the Emperor as a sacred figure in the Japanese state.

Alternate History of the Games[edit | edit source]

Game Strategy[edit | edit source]

Tsunami: Be as the "Divine Wind", your ships should be fast and destructive. Research should be focused on Engine, Weapon, and Air with Meteullogy as a secondary goal. Japan does best with small ships that can land powerful blows and possess great agility. When opperating a fleet it is suggested one use a Cruiser, Carrier, or Battlecarrier as one's flagship.

Naval Ops Commander[edit | edit source]

Japanese Faction is one of Allies Member feature in Naval Ops Commander. Their ship usually has Imperial Japanese flag in front of the deck. IJN Yamato, Iconic battleship from World War 2, also has many influence in the game. Most notable is first screen in the game, show off Yamato Bridge. Escort Ship design usually has Japanese ship design.

Eventhough, Japanese is recommended by game guide to new player, it's actually most grindy faction in the game. New player should choose American Flag instead. It's because pre-built ship in Japanese Faction is too focus on fast cruiser, meanwhile the game force you to use carrier or battleship. Player need to reach at least lvl 22 in Metal Tech to get Yamato, a standard battelship in Japan Arsenal.
